Vaqueros Downed in Three Sets at Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA - The Santa Barbara City College Women's Volleyball team lost at Long Beach City College on Wednesday, 20-25, 21-25, 14-25.

Long Beach really showed their class, particularly in a dominate third set after two competitive ones. The Vaqueros had trouble limiting unforced errors, and ultimately, it cost them.

"It was a disappointing night, to walk out of the gym feeling like we didn't play our best," head coach Kat Niksto said. "Credit to Long Beach, they played the best defense we have seen all year."

Evan Ybarra and Kira Little led the team with 8 kills apiece, while Chaya Clemons and Heidi Collins contributed 6 of their own. Natalie Lercari-Sullivan was the most solid Vaquero on the night, setting well and tallying a whopping 22 assists and 10 digs.

"At the end of the day, when we learn as a team how to limit our unforced errors, we are going to play much tougher volleyball," Niksto said.

The Vaqueros fall to 3-5, but have an opportunity to gain some rhythm during a 4-game week next week. SBCC plays away at Irvine Valley on Wednesday, following a home game against Canyons Friday at 6:00, and then finishing with two games at the Cuesta Quad tournament Saturday against Hartnell and Monterey Peninsula.
