WOODLAND HILLS, CA – The Santa Barbara City College Women's Volleyball team beat LA Pierce in an important road conference match on Wednesday night, 3 sets to none.

"It was a fun team win with lots of players contributing on the court," head coach Kat Niksto said. "We focus every time we step on the court on getting a little better, and we did just that."

A swift victory for SBCC, the first set win of 25-15 would be the closest of the night. The second set was absolute dominance from the Vaqueros at 25-6, and SBCC won the last set 25-13 to cap off the match.

Carly Hanna led the team in kills with 8, with Aviana Clemons second with 5. As a team, the Vaqueros hit .525%. Natalie Lercari-Sullivan set up her teammates with 16 assists, while Sophie Ward dished 10 and Charlotte Wilson had 7.

Confident serving continues to guide the Vaqueros, garnering 14 aces as a team, led by libero Gabby Russell on the night with 4 and Kira Little with 3. Russell also led in digs with 5, while Aviana Clemons and Nevaeh Tillet tallied 3.

The sweep improves the Vaqueros to 7-1 in conference play, remaining in sole possession of first place heading into the biggest match of the season, Friday at home against Ventura. A win for SBCC would clinch at least a share of the regular season WSC conference top spot; only Moorpark—who the Vaqueros are 2-0 against—would be able to match their record. A loss would result in a three-way tie for first place between SBCC, Ventura, and Moorpark with one match remaining, with all three teams sweeping and being swept by each other in the season series.

It is also the last home match of the season for the Vaqueros, meaning it will be Sophomore Night, honoring Sophie Ward, Gabby Russell, Heidi Collins, Callahan Rule, Celia Espinoza, Alexis (Birdie) Zevenbergen, and Jillian Zimmerman with a pregame ceremony before the 6:00 PM start.
