Vaqueros open season with two close losses

SBCC played the first two women's water polo games in school history on Friday, falling to Long Beach 12-10 and Sierra 12-7 at the 16th annual Cypress Charger Invitational.

Long Beach broke open a tie game with a 4-0 third-quarter burst.

Rocio Fesembeck had three goals, three steals and drew three ejections for the Vaqueros, who forged a 7-7 tie at halftime. Autumn Lovett also scored three goals. Jessica Leathers had three steals while goalie Alex Brown recorded five saves and three steals.

In the second game, the Vaqueros were tied again at the half, 2-2, after blanking Sierra 2-0 in the second quarter. The Wolverines won the second half 10-5 to pull out the victory.

Lovett collected three goals and four ejections while Fesembeck scored twice and had three steals. Crysta Thompson added two steals.

SBCC has two games on Saturday, taking on Orange Coast at 12:30 p.m. and Cypress at 3:30 p.m.
