Fesembeck guides Vaqueros to 5th straight win, 12-6

SBCC played stellar defense for the second straight day on Wednesday as the Vaqueros doubled up L.A. Pierce 12-6 in women's water polo action at San Marcos High.

The Vaqueros (11-10, 4-1 WSC) won their fifth straight game and improved to 2-0 at home. They had 13 steals on Wednesday, one day after notching a season-high 16 in an 8-5 victory at Ventura.

Rocio Fesembeck led the Vaqueros with five goals and three steals. Maddie Brooks had four goals while AJ Gravatt contributed two goals and two steals. Elise Hazel, Jessica Leathers and Paula Tkach all had two steals apiece.

SBCC led 4-1 after a quarter and 6-5 at the half, then outscored the Brahmas 6-1 in the second half. Pierce fell to 1-8 and 1-4.

"I am very proud of this team," said coach Chuckie Roth of his first-year group. "We started 0-5 and now we've won five straight. Our team has shown growth, maturity and understands how to support each other.

"Each of the members make sacrifices and add to the common goal. The wins are a by-product of a team that supports each other. I'm looking forward to the next two weeks. This is a unique and special group of athletes."

SBCC will play its final WSC game on Wednesday when Citrus comes to San Marcos High for a 5 p.m. contest.
