Six wasn't enough for SBCC on Saturday as the Vaqueros dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Battle at the Beach women's water polo tournament at Cerritos College. They lost a close 9-6 decision to San Diego Mesa in the morning and then fell to tournament host Long Beach, 13-6.

Santa Barbara (13-12) finished eighth in the elite two-day, 24-team event.

Addison Seale had two goals and five steals vs. Mesa while Maddie Brooks and Kendra Carr scored two goals each. The game was tied 5-5 heading into the fourth quarter but the Olympians (20-2) doubled up the Vaqueros 4-2 to win it, 9-6.

Mackenzie Richards had nine saves and three steals.

"We played very well and were tied 6-6 with two minutes to go," said coach Chuckie Roth. "We gave up two quick ones and then had to gamble for another. We've improved a lot and are excited to play our last four games of the regular season."

The Vaqueros have played Long Beach three times this year, losing the first meeting 8-6 and winning the second 8-7. Carr had three goals and two steals against the Vikings (16-9) on Saturday and Charissa Dorn scored twice.

The Vaqueros, second in the WSC at 4-1, will host third place Ventura (3-3) on Wednesday in a 5:20 p.m. game at San Marcos High. The Vaqueros are 5-0 at home in their two seasons.

On Saturday, SBCC will play three games at Santa Barbara High in its Halloween Tournament. The Vaqueros will complete WSC play against Hancock at 10:10 a.m., then take on Saddleback at 11:50 a.m. and Southwestern at 1:20 p.m.
