Seale is WSC Player of the Year; 5 Vaqueros are All-American

SBCC's Addison Seale has been named WSC Player of the Year and All-American in women's water polo. Five Vaqueros received All-American honors and 10 were named to the All-WSC team.

Santa Barbara had its finest season in just its third year of competition, starting 22-0 and reaching the State title game in a 33-2 campaign. Riverside edged the Vaqueros 9-8 in OT in the State final at Las Positas College.

Seale, a left-handed sophomore attacker from La Jolla High near San Diego, led the state with 107 assists while scoring 61 goals and making 68 steals. She recently accepted a scholarship to play for UCSB.

Goalie Mackenzie Richards, last year's WSC Player of the Year, was an All-Southern Cal and All-American choice, along with Seale, Halie Johnson, Gabrielle Ritter and Ivanna Bilaver.

Those five were also first-team All-Western State Conference for the Vaqueros, who went 7-0 in the regular season, then won three games to capture their third straight WSC Tournament title. They went on to claim their first Southern Cal Regional crown.

SBCC's Chuckie Roth was the Coach of the Year for Southern California. Hancock's Dominique Miller was the WSC Coach of the Year.

Richards, a two-time CCCAA All-American, had a 29-2 record with 212 saves (11th in the state) and a 5.1 goals-against average. Johnson, a sophomore from San Marcos High, was fourth in the conference with 87 goals and 70 steals. Bilaver and Ritter scored 59 goals each with Bilaver notching 64 steals.

Kendra Carr, the Vaqueros top scorer and No. 5 in the state with 99 goals, was a second-team All-WSC choice along with Charissa Dorn. Carr, a sophomore from Mill Valley, was 10th in the state with a team-high 73 steals.

Reagan Mroz, Lili Talkin and Nicole Cosares made honorable mention.
