Fraser sparks No. 1 Vaqueros to 9-5 Regional win

Emma Fraser scored six goals for the second straight game on Friday afternoon, guiding No. 1 SBCC to a 9-5 win over Cuesta in the quarterfinals of the Southern Cal Regional women's water polo tournament at L.A. Valley.

Fraser scored six of the first seven goals as the Vaqueros jumped ahead 5-0 after one period and took a 7-0 lead on her sixth goal with 5:50 to go in the third quarter. Tori Bray had three steals and goalies Nicole Poulos and Melisa Walk made six saves apiece.

SBCC, the defending Southern Cal champion, is ranked No. 1 in the state and seeded No. 1 for the 12-team regional. They won their eighth straight to improve to 27-3 on the season. Cuesta fell to 23-13.

The Vaqueros will take on No. 4 Golden West in the semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m. If Santa Barbara wins, it will earn a berth in the State Finals and advance to Saturday's championship match at 6 p.m.
