Russell-Sadoff is SBCC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Alyssa Russell-Sadoff has been selected as SBCC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The freshman water polo player and swimmer from Agoura High received her award during Monday's press luncheon of the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table at Harry's Plaza Café.

Russell-Sadoff was a key member of the Vaqueros' CCCAA state championship water polo team that went 31-3 and beat Sierra 8-6 for the title on Nov. 18. Russell-Sadoff started 28 of 33 games and racked up 19 goals, 32 assists and 34 steals.

She had four assists and four steals in an 11-7 state semifinal win over San Joaquin Delta. She earned first-team All-WSC, All-Southern Cal and All-American honors.

Russell-Sadoff has a 3.95 GPA, taking Psychology, English, Spanish and her Water Polo/Swim class.

"As a freshman, she balanced a rigorous water polo season and didn't miss one practice all fall," said coach Chuckie Roth. "She played injured and did everything that was asked of her. Swimming is her secondary sport and she will most likely be a first-team all-conference selection in the 200 and 500 free. I also think that she will be an All-American on the 800 freestyle relay."

Russell-Sadoff hopes to attend a Cal State school and major in elementary education.
