SBCC utility player Taylor Brooks has been selected as the Most Valuable Player in the Western State Conference.
The sophomore from Honolulu received a triple honor as conference MVP, first-team All-Southern Cal and first-team All-American.
The transfer from Sonoma State led all California scorers and broke SBCC's scoring record with 134 goals in 35 games (3.8 avg.). Emma Fraser, a two-time WSC MVP in 2017-18, set the previous record of 123 goals last year.
Brooks also led the Vaqueros in steals (71) and drawn ejections (67).
SBCC went 30-5 for the second straight year and captured its sixth straight WSC title with an 8-0 record. The Vaqueros have won 40 straight conference games. They lost in the Southern Cal Regional semifinals to Riverside 12-7, then won the third-place game against WSC rival Citrus, 10-5.
Four Vaqueros were first-team All-WSC – Zoe Johnson, Annie Ackert, Hana Wigzell and Madison Wayman. Allison Kay and Bleu Ricketts were second-team choices and Lanie Acevedo and Waverly Golden made honorable mention.
Jennifer Spalding of runner-up Citrus was the Coach of the Year.
Johnson, a freshman goalie from San Diego, was first-team All-So Cal and first team All-American. She compiled a 26-5 record and set school records for saves in a game (17 against L.A. Valley), saves in a season (234) and saves average (7.3).
Ackert, a freshman from Santa Ynez High, and Wigzell, a sophomore from Sandy, Oregon, were second-team All-So Cal and second-team All-American.
Ackert was second on the Vaquero scoring chart with 78 goals. Wigzell was third in scoring (42 goals), first in assists (39) and second in steals (63).
