Chuckie will be in his 10th year as head coach of Water Polo in 2023. He's led the Vaqueros to two CCCAA State Championships (2017 & 2022), eight straight WSC championships, a state runner-up in 2016, and Final 4 berths in 2018 & 2019.

SBCC has won at least 30 games in six straight seasons and Roth is 235-54 (.813) in eight campaigns. The Vaqueros were crowned state champions for the second time in 2022, defeating Orange Coast 10-7 in the championship game. Roth won his fourth WSC Coach of the Year award, Jenna Olson was named WSC Offensive Player of the Year, and 10 Vaqueros earned All-Conference honors.

Roth's WSC record is a sparkling 64-2, including 57 consecutive wins heading into 2023. The Vaqueros are also 42-3 at home since the program began in 2014.

The Vaqueros went 30-7 in 2021, coming up just one goal short in a 6-5 state championship loss to West Valley. Eden Tal was one of nine All-WSC selections and four All-Americans and was named SoCal Player of the Year after leading the team with 75 goals.

Taylor Brooks was the MVP of the WSC and an All-American in 2019. She broke SBCC's all-time single-season scoring record with 134 goals in 35 games (3.8 avg.).

The Vaqueros topped Sierra 8-6 for the 2017 state title and Emma Fraser was named state tournament MVP. SBCC won its second straight Southern Cal championship, beating Riverside 6-4.

The 2018 squad went 30-5 and captured its fifth straight WSC title. In five years, Roth has posted a 131-36 record and 42-2 in WSC action. The Vaqueros have won 32 straight WSC clashes entering the 2019 season. They're 94-10 jn the last 3 years and lost their first home game to eventual state champion Fullerton 10-8 on Sept. 29, 2018 when they played three games in a day at Dos Pueblos High. They're 29-1 at home in five seasons.

Roth has also had great success as the Swimming & Diving coach, guiding the Vaqueros to a 232-19 record with five straight WSC championships, two fourth-place State finishes in 2016 & 2017 and a 10th-place State showing last year. The Vaqueros had their 135-meet WSC winning streak broken by Cuesta on Feb. 29, 2020.

In their third year of water polo, the Vaqueros won their first 22 games and advanced to the CCCAA State final where they fell a goal short in a 9-8 overtime loss to Riverside. They were ranked No. 1 in the State for most of the year and set a school record for wins with a 33-2 record. Addison Seale, who's now playing for UCSB, led the State with a school-record 107 assists. She pulled off a rare double, winning the SBCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and female Athlete of the Year for all sports in 2016-17.

The Vaqueros finished fifth in the Southern Cal Regional in 2014 and 2015. In their first season in 2014, the Vaqueros went 8-1 in conference and topped L.A. Valley 9-5 for the WSC Tournament championship.

Roth was named WSC Coach of the Year and Rocio Fesembeck was the Player of the Year in the Vaqueros' inaugural season of 2014. He was also the Coach of the Year in 2015 and the Southern Cal Coach of the Year in 2016 when his Vaqueros were ranked No. 1 in the State. They went 10-0 in the 2016 WSC regular season and WSC Tournament, then won their first Southern Cal Regional title with a 10-7 triumph over Riverside. Seale was named WSC and Southern Cal Player of the Year. The program has produced 14 All-Americans and 29 All-Conference players.

He was named coach of the new women's water polo program on Feb. 24, 2014 and quickly built the water polo and swim programs into powerhouses. The swimming and diving team has won three straight WSC championships (2015, 2016, 2017) and finished fourth in the State the last two years. His swim & dive teams have produced two State champions and 24 All-Americans in just four seasons.

He came to SBCC with a wealth of experience, coaching 17 years at all levels of aquatics. From 1997-99, he served as the assistant coach of the men's and women's water polo teams at UCSB. In 1999, he was promoted to associate head coach of the women's water polo team. In his three years with the women's program, they placed as high as fifth in the country and developed nine All-Americans.

In addition to coaching at SBCC, Roth has an outstanding record as a coach with the Santa Barbara Water Polo club. He has led more than 20 teams to Top 10 finishes in the nation. He has eight Final 4 appearances and has won three national championships. He has coached a plethora of All-Americans, collegiate players and USA National Team players.

In 2000, he moved to Temple City High and resurrected the boys team while starting the girls water polo program. In four years, he won three league championships, two CIF championships, coached six All-Americans and sent nine athletes to swim and play college water polo at various schools. He was also recognized as CIF Division 3 coach of the year in 2003 and 2004.

In 2004, he moved back to Santa Barbara and took a job teaching and coaching at San Marcos High School. The San Marcos aquatics program was in disarray and had not won a game in two years. In 2016, the Royals were the CIF runner-up. San Marcos is now one of the best Aquatic programs in the State with four straight water polo and girls' swimming Channel League titles. In the last 10 years, Roth has coached 26 All-Americans (12 water polo, 14 swimming).

He continues to teach and coach at San Marcos High in addition to coaching swimming & diving and water polo at SBCC.

Roth graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1997 with a degree in history and a minor in exercise health science. In 2002, Brian earned his Masters degree from Azusa Pacific University with a degree in education with an emphasis in exercise health science. In 2011, he was selected as the San Marcos High Teacher of the Year. Later that year, he was chosen as the Santa Barbara County Distinguished Educator of the Year. In May of 2012, he was recognized as Sportsperson of the Month by PresidioSports.com, which covers sports online in the Santa Barbara area.

In 2017, he received the USA Water Polo Sandy Nita Women's Elite Distinguished Coach of the Year.

Brian lives in Goleta with his wife, Leslie, and their three children, Indiana, Kumani and Utah.
