Michaela Dahringer took 16th in 22:10 on Friday in the WSC Championships at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura and SBCC advanced to the Southern Cal Regional women's cross country meet.
The Vaqueros won a tiebreaker for fifth after tying with Citrus at 144. Glendale, ranked No. 1 in the state, won the team title over No. 2 Canyons (24-41) and Jassmine Macon of Glendale was the individual champ on the 5K course in 20:11.
"Our No. 1 goal was to qualify for the So Cal meet," said coach Scott Fickerson, who has guided the women to State appearances the last two years. "Our plan today was to be much more aggressive off the line and put ourselves in a position to race in a higher place. The women followed the plan really well and we moved up super well."
Dean Roell was 22nd in 22:25 while Kylie Walker, Cassie Everett and Camille Schutze took 36th, 38th and 39th, respectively.
"We have been averaging around 20 points behind Citrus and 30 behind Ventura," Fickerson noted. "Today we beat Citrus on a tiebreaker and were nipping at Ventura's heels (the Cougars were just seven points ahead of the Vaqueros). We're in a great shape for So Cals and State!"
The Southern Cal Championships are set for Friday, Nov. 7 at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.
