All six SBCC runners turned in season bests on Friday and the Vaqueros took 12th out of 27 women's cross country teams in the Southern Cal Championships at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.

Kylie Walker, a freshman from Costa Mesa, was 43rd in 19:55 on the 5K course, Michaela Dahringer was 54th in 20:05 and Dean Roell was 67th in 20:17 in a field of 177 runners. The Vaqueros earned their third straight trip to the State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Nov. 22.

Glendale took the team title, beating Mt. SAC by 18 points, 61-79. Aminat Olowora of Southwestern was the individual winner in 17:31.

"It was a warm day (in low 80s) and we had a tough starting spot, in the box all the way to the left," said coach Scott Fickerson. "We were cut off to the back of the pack but we did a great job of staying composed and working our way back up. It was a great team effort.

"Now we have two weeks to prepare and we're looking forward to an even better race at State."
