Schutze is 33rd in SBCC Invitational

SBCC's Camille Schutze placed 33rd in the SBCC Invitational on Friday and Elin Oesterman was 38th in the 5K women's cross country race that started at Leadbetter Beach and finished at Shoreline Park.

Schutze, a sophomore from Nordhoff High, ran 24:06 and Oesterman clocked 25:01 on the challenging Vaquero course that features sand, hills, streets and thick grass. Temperatures on Friday soared into the mid-90s.

Glendale, the No. 1-ranked team in the state, took the top five spots and posted a perfect score of 15. No. 4 Mt. San Antonio was second with 68 points.

Brenda Sanchez of Glendale was the individual winner in the 85-woman field in a time of 21:05. Teammates Giselle Masedo and Leana Satian ran second and third.

The Vaqueros will compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday morning in Walnut.
