Yuliana Garibay took ninth and Brigit Cooke was 30th on Friday in the season-opening Ventura Invitational women's cross country meet at Arroyo Verde Park.
Garibay, a sophomore from Santa Ynez High, covered the 5K course in 23:31. Cooke was clocked in 26:17. Ventura's Macy Schmidt won the race in 20:45.
Moorpark topped the seven-team field, edging Ventura 50-56.
Santa Barbara returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 in the Southern Cal Preview at Irvine Regional Park.
