SBCC placed 18th in the Southern Cal Women's Cross Country Championships on Friday and earned a spot in the State Championships.
Christy Chavira led the way, taking 61st in 20:45 on the 5K course at Irvine Regional Park. The top three Vaqueros were separated by just 13 seconds with Yuliana Garibay 65th in 20:54 and Karla Jaime 68th in a season-best 20:58 in a field of 185 runners.
"Our top three really had a great day and that sort of pack running always has a great effect in a large field like today," said coach Scott Fickerson.
Miranda Daschian of Cuesta won the race in 18:12. Glendale took the team title with 45 points and Riverside was second in the 27-team field with 128.
The Vaqueros qualified for the State Championships for the fourth time in the last five years and fifth time in Fickerson's nine-year tenure.
