VENTURA, Calif. – Santa Barbara City College football lost to No. 4 Ventura on Saturday, 73-14, at the Ventura College Sportsplex.
Following injuries last week to Cole Luekinga and Jackson McPeak, Brooks Trimmer got his first start of the season at quarterback. Trimmer finished the game with 177 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
Nate Jetter caught five passes for 57 yards, while Dominic Dadkhah hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass for his lone reception.
Kayson Mathabela found the endzone on a three-yard run in the third quarter and finished the game with 31 yards on 14 rushes. Jayden Tinker led the rushing attack with 70 yards on 13 attempts.
Nelson Smith and Jayden Cleary led the defensive effort with seven total tackles while Dean Davis recorded a sack in his second straight game.
"We were extremely banged up going into the game," said head coach Craig Moropoulos. "But our guys continued to play hard, and I was proud of the effort."
The Pirates remain undefeated on the season, marking the fourth opponent in the top-25 rankings that SBCC has faced this year.
Other ranked opponents as of Sept. 23 include No. 9 El Camino, No. 15 Cerritos, and No. 22 Pasadena City.
The Vaqueros are now 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. They have the weekend off from games, giving the banged-up squad a chance to recuperate before hosting Moorpark on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at La Playa Stadium.
