The wind got in the way of another men's golf tournament for SBCC on Monday as only two players broke 80 in WSC No. 2 at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
Jacob Valente of Antelope Valley was the medalist at 77 and Peter Kim of Glendale shot 79. SBCC's No. 5 player, Isaac Stone, was sixth with an 82.
"It was windier than it was last week at Valencia (in WSC No. 1)," noted SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "It's a difficult course anyway and when you add in 25-mph winds with gusts, it's a real beast. We had some guys doing well early but we just couldn't hold it today. It can be very frustrating to play in conditions like these."
Canyons won the 18-hole tourney with 409 strokes. Ventura was five back at 414, followed by SBCC (429), Antelope Valley (431) and Bakersfield (455). The Cougars lead the WSC with a 14-0 record. Ventura is second at 12-2 and the Vaqueros are third at 10-4.
Matt Pate and Blake Bornand shot 85 and were in a five-way tie for 14th place.
The Vaqueros will play in the Eagle Classic on Wednesday, hosted by Mt. San Jacinto at Soboba Springs GC.
