SBCC rallied to tie Friday's season-opening men's tennis match 4-4 by capturing the No. 2 and 3 doubles. Riverside then prevailed in the No. 1 doubles 8-4 to pull out a 5-4 win at Pershing Park.

Alexander Martin and Taylor Kleine won the singles points at No. 3 and 5 with Kleine, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, shutting out Marcelo Dominguez 6-0, 6-0.

SBCC's Andreas Fuerst, a freshman from Denmark, played a tough match at No. 4 singles, falling to Chris Lee 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4.

Arthur Scharff and Kyosuke Kiachi took the No. 2 doubles 8-2 for the Vaqueros. Kleine and Lucas Pollero won the No. 3 doubles 8-0, giving Kleine a perfect day with a game record of 20-0.

"Andreas played a well-fought match and we got great energy from everyone," said first-year coach Nathan Jackmon. "We open WSC play next week at Ventura. The team is very excited and we're confident moving forward."
