Keoni Thiim and Trent Lingruen combined for 37 kills on Friday night as SBCC stunned No. 1 Orange Coast 3-1 for its first men's volleyball win of the season. The scores were 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22.

Thiim pounded 19 kills and hit .400. Lingruen, a 6-4 sophomore from Tahoe City, had 18 kills and a robust .500 hitting percentage. Middle blocker Luke Hetherington added nine kills and five blocks.

The sixth-ranked Vaqueros are 1-2 and Orange Coast fell to 2-1.

"Keoni and Trent played great," said coach Jon Newton. "Luke and Brad (Kleven) were workhorses for us in the middle. And Aaron Letvin did an amazing job coming off the bench, serving well (3 aces), playing great defense and giving to his teammates.

"We implemented a lot of things after our first two losses, so it's nice to see us executing them in a match when it matters."

The Vaqueros will play at Irvine Valley on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
