Five SBCC student-athletes have been named to the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team for 2018-19.

Maaria Jaakkola, a sophomore guard/forward from Dos Pueblos High, was one of nine players with a 4.0 GPA. The other honorees from SBCC are Lauren Noggle (3.95), Jennae Mayberry (3.8), Shayna Bass (3.55) and Lei Talaro (3.54).

Eighty-five players from 40 colleges made the team and it's the largest group ever to be honored. They will be recognized at the CCCWBCA's Banquet of Champions at the Courtyard By Marriott in Oxnard on March 14 beginning at 6 p.m.

To qualify for Academic All-State recognition, the student-athletes had to complete a year of play on their teams, earn at least 24 units of credit and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA.

The Vaqueros will host Cuesta in a WSC North contest on Saturday at 7 p.m.
