Coming up on the end of the school year, the 2023-24 SBCC Women's Basketball team boasts 6 players moving on to a 4-year university.

"I could not be more proud of our sophomores transferring on to the next level to continue their academic and athletic paths," head coach Sandrine Krul said.

This is no surprise, as the program combined for a 3.7 GPA this school year. During the 2022-23 school year, 10 Vaqueros were named to the Academic All-State team.

Dos Pueblos graduate Lily Mires will stay close to home, continuing her academic career at UCSB. Similarly, Carpinteria High grad Jasmine Gilbert will attend Antioch this fall. Grace Caraballo will head south down the coast to San Diego State.

Athletically, First Team All-WSC selection Paityn Persson will play at Texas A&M-San Antonio later this year, as will Kiani Rojas. They will be the first Vaqueros tandem to attend the same 4-year since 2020.

Leila Chisholm, WSC Honorable Mention, has chosen Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she will continue her basketball career. Chisholm also played softball this spring, earning her the title of Female Student-Athlete of the Year, presented by the SBCC PE/Athletics Department. Even more impressively, she maintained a 4.0 GPA while being a two-sport Vaquero, making the Academic All-State team for the second consecutive year.

"It's hard enough being a one-sport student athlete—Leila played two sports and achieved greatness in the classroom," Krul said proudly. "She is a remarkable representation of what a student-athlete resembles: grit and commitment!"

Vaqueros Athletics wishes nothing but the best to our student-athletes moving on, and we look forward to following their journeys across the country.
