SBCC took second in a WSC tourney for the third straight time on Monday at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.

Pratima Sherpa, a freshman from Nepal, led the Vaqueros with a 7-over 77 in WSC No. 3. She was third and teammate Honey Lawrie shot a season-best 87 to place sixth.

The Vaqueros played without No. 2 player Alexa Bleth, the only returner from last year. She missed the match with personal issues.

"Our score was a little tough but I'm happy with how we stayed with it," said coach Chuck Melendez. "Honey Lawrie has been slowly pulling her scores down."

Canyons won its third straight WSC tourney with a 310. The Vaqueros were second at 345 and Antelope Valley was a distant third at 429.

The Cougars took four of the top five spots, led by Haruka Koda, who captured her second WSC medalist honor of the year at 71. Teammate Jessie Lin was second at 75, two strokes ahead of Sherpa.

Canyons tops the WSC standings at 15-0 with the Vaqueros three games back at 12-3.

"We're getting better but we just lack experience," said Melendez. "I have a bunch of really good kids and they're a hard-working bunch. I only see good things down the road."

WSC No. 4, scheduled for next Monday at Antelope Valley CC, has been postponed.

The Vaqueros will host the next tourney – the North-South Invitational on Sept. 22-23 (Sunday-Monday) at Morro Bay GC, which is also the site of the State Championships on Nov. 17-18.
