SBCC dominated the doubles and swept the No. 2 through 6 singles on Tuesday in an 8-1 women's tennis win at Ventura.
The defending WSC champion Vaqueros (10-1, 7-0) opened the second round of conference play with their 10th straight win and 22nd straight WSC triumph.
The Vaqueros' match record is 58-5 in seven WSC contests.
Jamaica Buyse, Maura Mannix, Joica Buyse, Ashley Allen and Sydney Paillon comprised the 2 through 6 singles. They all won in straight sets and had a combined game record of 60-16.
"Overall the team performed well," said third-year coach Christina Klein. "Kelly Coulson and Maura Mannix played strong doubles and prevented the other team from getting in the match. Our 2 through 6 singles all won in straight sets and were clearly the stronger players.
"Heading into the second round of conference, the girls look confident and are beginning to build their court presence during their matches. The closest match came at No. 1 singles. Kelly Coulson was down 1-4 in the first set and was able to rally back to 5-4, then lost in the tiebreak as her opponent played with laser focus. In the second set, Kelly was down 2-5 and came back to 5-4 before losing 6-4. Kelly showed an improvement in her score from the first time she played Sylvie Van Cott. And even though she lost, it was a battle for every ball."
The Vaqueros will play three of their next four at Pershing Park, where they are 5-1 this year. They'll host Antelope Valley on Thursday at 2 p.m.
