Schwenk wins heat in 600, takes 4th in 200 in season opener

Cassandra Schwenk had a solid college debut on Saturday, winning her 600-meter heat and then bouncing back to finish fourth in the 200 in the On Your Marks track and field meet, hosted by Westmont College.

"Our women came in with the mindset that they were going to treat this meet as a hard training session after missing practice early in the week due to sickness that swept across the team," said Vaquero coach Scott Santella. "Cassandra ran a very tough 600m race in which she won her heat and came back 30 minutes later to finish 4th in the 200m.

"Our jumpers, Elisa Poeyry and Natallea Bazor, got some quality work done from a short approach. We are looking forward to being healthy and competing in the WSC Relays in two weeks."

The Vaqueros will travel to West L.A. for the WSC Relays on Valentine's Day (Friday, Feb. 14) at 11 a.m.
