A Santa Barbara native, John Sener is in his second season as an assistant coach at SBCC in 2021. He grew up playing beach volleyball at East Beach. After graduating high school he attended SBCC and played one season of football.
Sener traveled to Oregon and continued his athletic career playing baseball for Lynn Benton Community College and competed at the semi-professional level in the Pacific Northwest.
John has been coaching volleyball locally for the past 18 seasons, starting at Dos Pueblos High where he was an assistant coach for both JV and Varsity helping Dos Pueblos to a CIF Championship in 2009.
He was the head coach at Bishop Diego High School from 2014-2018. The program flourished and made CIF playoffs in three of his four seasons. John also coached Club Volleyball for over eight years, coaching at all levels from 15s to 18s.
In 2011, as an assistant coach for SBVC alongside Liz Towne-Gilber, their 18-1s team captured a silver medal at the Junior Olympics. In 2014 coaching with Kat Niksto, their 15-1s team took a bronze medal at the AAUs.
