Vaqueros win two more, boost record to 7-0

SBCC won a pair of women's water polo games on Thursday, including a 9-6 decision at Citrus in the WSC opener at Glendora.

The unbeaten Vaqueros (7-0, 1-0) also downed San Joaquin Delta 12-9 after leading 9-3 at halftime.

Allison Kay, a freshman utility from Roseville, Calif., scored four goals in the morning game vs. Citrus. She had a hat trick in the first half as the Vaqueros built a 6-3 advantage. Taylor Brooks added two goals and six steals and goalie Zoe Johnson made a season-high 10 saves and three steals.

"Allison had two clutch goals and Zoe blocked a penalty shot," said coach Chuckie Roth. "Hana Wigzell played really good 2-meter defense."

The Vaqueros are seeking their sixth straight WSC championship. They've won 33 straight conference games and they're 43-2 since starting the program in 2014.

Brooks and Madison Wayman poured in four goals each in the second game with Wayman recording four steals and Brooks getting two.

Brooks leads the Vaqueros in scoring with 26 goals (3.7 avg.), followed by Kay (15) and Annie Ackert (12).

SBCC is playing six games in three days with two on Thursday and four in the Riverside Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Vaqueros will face a pair of Orange Empire opponents on Friday in Golden West (12:20 p.m.) and Orange Coast (4:40 p.m.).
