SBCC dominated the first halves on Friday morning on the way to two victories on Day 1 of the Riverside Tournament. The Vaqueros topped previously unbeaten Golden West 12-7 and then notched a rare 14-0 shutout of Orange Coast.

The undefeated Vaqueros (9-0) led 7-2 at halftime of the first game and 8-0 after two periods of the shutout.

Taylor Brooks scored three goals vs. the Rustlers (6-1) and four against the Pirates. Annie Ackert, Allison Kay and Bleu Ricketts all had a pair of goals vs. GWC with Ricketts dishing out three assists. Hana Wigzell added a goal and three assists.

Ackert tossed in four goals against OCC and goalie Zoe Johnson made a season-best 13 saves while recording the third shutout in SBCC history and the first in nearly four years.

"Zoe had a big day," said coach Chuckie Roth. "I was really proud of her improvement and ability to talk more with her team. She is the backbone of our defense and I am proud of her efforts.

"Bleu Ricketts had a breakout day also. The southpaw was responsible for four of our first five goals (1 goal, 3 assists). She is a hard-working kid who is already making a big impact and I look forward to her improvement.

"Lanie Acevedo made great strides today and I'm excited about her growth. She had a great goal but more importantly, she's really improving and making the team better."

The Vaqueros will take on San Joaquin Delta for the second time in three days on Saturday at 7:45 a.m., then they'll renew their rivalry with the host Riverside at 11 a.m.

SBCC will make its home debut next Wednesday when it battles Ventura at Santa Barbara High, starting at 5:20 p.m.
