SBCC opened October with a pair of wins on Friday in the 21st MidState Invitational at Cuesta in San Luis Obispo.
The third-ranked Vaqueros rode a 6-1 second-half surge to dominate Cuesta 9-2 and then jumped out to an 11-1 lead on the way to an 18-5 victory over the Philippines National Team.
Taylor Brooks had three goals and four steals in the Cuesta game and poured in seven goals in the second game, missing the single-game school record by one. Annie Ackert and Bleu Ricketts added two goals apiece in the WSC win over Cuesta.
The Vaqueros are 16-2 overall and 4-0 in conference with 36 straight WSC wins.
Jayde Maniscalco started in goal vs. Cuesta and made four saves while only giving up two goals in three quarters.
"I was proud of Jayde for the win over Cuesta," said coach Chuckie Roth. "She played great and has worked very hard this season. Lanie Acevedo continues to improve and is making great strides. She adds great depth and is finding a way to find the back of the net.
"In the game vs. Philippines, Taylor Brooks was pretty special. Taylor finds ways to make game-changing plays. I am proud of their improvement."
Brooks, the No. 2 scorer in the state with 61 goals, poured in seven goals on seven shots against the Philippines. Lanie Acevedo and Waverly Golden added two goals each. Madison Wayman had two goals, two blocks and two drawn ejections.
"Zoe Johnson was solid in the cage," added Roth. "She was the backbone of what we were doing and allowed for us to take defensive risks for offensive gains. The team is coming together and I am proud of our team's ability to come together. Each day is an opportunity for growth."
SBCC will take on the state's top two teams on Saturday with revenge on their minds. The Vaqueros will battle No. 1 Riverside at 11:20 a.m. and No. 2 Fullerton at 2:35 p.m.
Santa Barbara, Riverside and Fullerton all won their pools in the nine-team tournament.
