SBCC's Mckenzie Cooke took 24th in her first college race on Friday at the season-opening Tour de Cuesta.
"I'm proud of her bravery to go out there and race solo," said coach Scott Fickerson. "She learned a lot and looks forward to coming back here at the end of October (for the WSC Championships) with a bunch of teammates surrounding her."
Sophia Cortina of Moorpark was the winner of the 5K race in 20:18. Cooke, a freshman from Walnut Creek, ran 24:48.
Saddleback took the team title with 33 points. Palomar was second with 50 points, two better than Moorpark.
