SBCC endured a long car ride and a hot Friday to conduct some reconnaissance at the Southern Cal Preview cross country meet at Mission Bay Park in San Diego.

Emma Kopp, who played on the Vaquero water polo team that took fourth in the state last year, placed 116th in 24:12.8 in her cross country debut. Mckenzie Cooke was 139th (25:08.1), Linn Anderberg was 171st (27:18.7) and Ida Hamberg was 205th (34:30.0) in the 5K race that was run in 90-plus degree weather.

"It was nice to have more ladies out on the course today and soon we'll have a few more out here," said coach Scott Fickerson. "We always like to come to this meet to get a feeling for the course that's going to host the Southern Cal Championships on Nov. 8. We're working on building toward a strong season finish."

Glendale ran away with the team title with 38 points. Ventura was second with 100 and Riverside (127) took third.

Moorpark's Sophia Cortina was the individual champion in 19:14.8.
