VENTURA – Sophomore Emma Crabbe took home the WSC Pairs Championship for the second straight year, partnering with freshman Olivia Medina to defeat No. 1 seed Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno from Ventura, 26-24, 21-14.
Crabbe and Medina made up one of five SBCC beach volleyball pairs at the conference championships. After entering the competition with the No. 2 seed and automatically qualifying for the round of 16 with a bye, they didn't drop a single set the rest of the way.
The pair first defeated No. 15 Grace Williams/Alba Romanos Gracia (Ventura), 21-15, 22-20. Over the next two rounds, Crabbe and Medina dispatched two of their fellow Vaquero pairs, downing No. 7 Irey Sandholt/Paige Rudi, 21-10, 21-9 in the quarterfinals and No. 6 Jacelin McKie/Paige Rudi, 21-18, 21-19 in the semis.
In the championship match, Crabbe and Medina were able to put together timely runs and make key plays to defeat top-seeded Murdoch and Moreno, giving SBCC the WSC pairs championship for a second straight time.
