MOORPARK – One day after falling to Moorpark at home, the SBCC baseball team bounced back with a 4-3 win on the Raiders' home field.

ON THE STAT SHEET

  • Both sides matched each other with eight hits apiece. Andrew McKenna led the Vaqueros (16-11, 9-5) with a season-high four hits to go along with two RBI.
  • First baseman Mark Hernandez had a hit and an RBI of his own. Shortstop Gabe Baldavino, center fielder Pearce Blaney and third baseman Owen Crevelt had SBCC's other three hits.
  • Catcher Tyler Imbach finished with a season-high three walks.
  • Decker Mac Neil tossed a season-best seven strikeouts in five innings of work. He gave up just one earned run. Fellow pitchers Noah Bullard (1-0) and Jake McBride (Sv, 1) both threw for two innings and gave up just one hit each with no runs allowed.

HOW IT HAPPENED

4th-5th Innings (3-1 Moorpark)

  • Moorpark (11-15, 9-5) held SBCC scoreless with just two hits through the first four innings.
  • The Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Shane Leong-Grieger led off with a single and advanced to second. He would make it home on a single by Connor Whitcomb to open the scoring.
  • SBCC immediately answered in the top of the fifth. Baldavino singled and made it to third following a McKenna single. Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly with one out as Baldavino tied the game.
  • However, the Raiders came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, both of which were unearned.

8th-9th Innings (4-3 SBCC)

  • The Vaqueros pulled ahead for the first time with a big eighth inning. Caiden Matheny was hit by a pitch on the first at bat. Blaney singled and Crevelt put down a big sac bunt to put runners on second and third.
  • Nick Seyler was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Cahoy entered as a pinch hitter and brought in Matheny on a sac fly to center, bringing SBCC within one run at 3-2.
  • With the bases loaded and two outs on the board, McKenna hit a huge two-run single, bringing in Blaney and Seyler to take a 4-3 advantage. That would be the final scoring action of the day, as McBride entered the game and gave up just one hit over the final two innings.
