SANTA BARBARA – The SBCC baseball team had a four-game win streak snapped on Tuesday at Oxnard, falling to the Condors for the first itme this season 5-2.

The Vaqueros had been a perfect 3-0 against Oxnard this season. They are now 19-12 overall and 12-6 in WSC play, while the Condors moved to 10-24 overall, 5-14 conference.

ON THE STAT SHEET

  • SBCC had gone under 10 hits just once in its previous seven games, but was held to just five on Tuesday.
  • Catcher Andrew McKenna was the lone Vaquero to register an RBI, picking up one with a single in the third and another in the top of the seventh.
  • The Vaqueros only gave up six hits themselves. Aiden Garza got the start on the mound and tossed six strikeouts in just under four innings. Seth White and Noah Bullard both pitched for two innings, giving up just one hit each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Inning (1-0 Oxnard)

  • The Condors began the game with a double, and two at bats later, second baseman Thade Miller made it home on a wild pitch to open the scoring.

3rd Inning (1-1 Tie)

  • After two hitless innings, the Vaqueros evened things in the top of the third.
  • Carson Cahoy and Gabe Baldavino picked up back-to-back walks. McKenna then hit a single to bring Cahoy in for the tying run.

4th-5th Innings (3-1 Oxnard)

  • Oxnard regained the lead in the fourth. After a pair of leadoff walks, Juan Rios scored on a single by Anthony Alvarez.
  • In the fifth, the Condors doubled their lead without needing a hit. Adrian Sandoval led off with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, then to third on a passed ball, and finally made it home on a wild pitch.

6th-9th Innings (5-2 Oxnard)

  • The only two-run inning of the game came in the sixth, when Oxnard put up two more to go up 5-1. The first came on a sacrifice fly RBI, but the second was on a Vaquero error with two outs. Both runs were unearned.
  • Needing to get on track offensively, SBCC got back in the scoring column in the top of the seventh. Left fielder Caiden Matheny singled and eventually made his way to third. McKenna then knocked what should have been a ground out over to the Oxnard second baseman, giving him his second RBI and making it to first via a Condor mistake.
  • Unfortunately for the Vaqueros, that was the last run of the day for either team as both sides got just one batter on base the rest of the way.
