Vaqueros Win Big Again at Hartnell

SALINAS, CA – The SBCC baseball team (3-0) kept continued pouring on the runs at Hartnell (2-2) on Thursday, winning its road opener 13-4.

Three Vaqueros had multi-RBI days, led by JP Boyle who had three hits and a walk on four at bats. Leadoff batter Daniel Hirose added a pair of hits, runs and RBI to go with a walk and left fielder Patrick Walsh also had two RBI and a run on two hits.

This was the third straight game to open the season that the Vaqueros (3-0) put up at least 11 runs and 11 hits.

The action picked up right off the bat. With two outs in the top of the first, Walsh hit a single to left that brought catcher Tyler Imbach in to open the scoring. Boyle singled to center field immediately after as Walsh made it 2-0.

The Panthers scored in each of the first two innings to tie it at 2-2. From there, it was all SBCC, as the visitors loaded the bases for two runs in the third, including a Jackson Haskell walk RBI.

Hirose scored on another Walsh single in the fourth. Hirose tallied his two RBI for the next two Vaquero runs, singling to right field in the seventh to bring Haskell in. That gave Santa Barbara a commanding 7-2 advantage.

Several Panther mistakes extended SBCC's lead to 12-2 midway through the eighth. Daniel Ghiorso brought in the Vaqueros' final run of the game with a single to center as Boyle made it 13-2.

While Hartnell had plenty of mistakes from its pitching staff, SBCC got another great team effort. Coleton Dahl (1-0), Seth White and Ryan Troye combined for 16 strikeouts, giving up just four hits and four earned runs.
