Jeremy Moussa threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns in the first half on Saturday night as San Bernardino Valley built a 37-7 lead en route to a 51-7 football victory over SBCC.
The Vaqueros (1-1) had three turnovers in the first half with Scotty Forbes throwing two interceptions at the Wolverine 12 and 3-yard line.
San Bernardino (2-0) set a number of school records in last week's 80-48 win over Santa Ana.
Moussa completed 27-of-48 passes for 457 yards and four touchdowns. Dionzae Nolan caught seven balls for 167 yards and two TDs. Darrell Turner Jr. rushed 20 times for 163 yards and a touchdown.
The Vaqueros lost all-state center Sage Sobrado to injury on the first play of the game.
"We were missing our top rusher and top receiver and then we lost our best offensive lineman with a rolled ankle on the first play," said SBCC coach Craig Moropoulos. "They're a very good team. We fell behind in the first quarter and then we had several chances in the red zone but we couldn't convert. You have to score in the red zone, especially against a high-scoring tteam."
Backup quarterback Bradley Kleven was Santa Barbara's most effective threat, completing 14-29 for 181 yards and a 61-yard screen pass to Will Bayonne for a TD with 2:19 to play in the first quarter. Jahmal Cornwell caught five passes for 45 yards and Cyrus Wallace had five receptions for 36 yards before leaving with a shoulder injury.
Bayonne had his first 100-yard rushing game with 21 carries for 107 yards.
The Wolverines won the yardage battle 675-389 and averaged 8.5 yards per play. Both teams collected 28 first downs.
San Bernardino Valley scored the first 23 points in a span of 4:04 of the first quarter. Moussa capped an 88-yard drive with an 8-yard run, Bayonne was tackled in the end zone for a safety, and Moussa hit Koale Schroeder on a 49-yard scoring pass. A poor snap on a Vaquero punt gave SBVC the ball at the Vaquero 41 and four plays later, Moussa connected with Kavan Johnson for a 10-yard score.
After Bayonne scored on the 61-yard screen pass, the Vaqueros made a goal-line stand at the 6 at the start of the second quarter. SBCC moved to the Wolverine 4 before a false start moved it back to the 9. Devon Blakley intercepted a Forbes pass at the 3 and returned it 29 yards.
The Wolverines drove 68 yards for their fourth TD – a 20-yard pass from Moussa to Nolan that stretched the lead to 30-7.
The Vaqueros will host No. 15 Canyons on Saturday at 6 p.m.
