Runningback Brandon Smith Named SCFA Offensive Player of the Week

SANTA BARBARA, CA – SBCC football runningback Brandon Smith been named the Southern California Football Association Offensive Player of the Week.

The sophomore is the first Vaquero to earn SCFA honors so far this season, following a huge performance leading Santa Barbara's run attack in last Saturday's 37-20 win at West LA.

Smith helped get SBCC out to a 14-0 lead with first quarter touchdowns of 53 and 11 yards. He went on to finish with a game-high 152 yards on 17 carries (8.9 Y/A) to go with two touchdowns.

Nearly tripling West LA's 57 rushing yards singlehandedly, Smith's efforts saw SBCC go for over 200 rushing yards in two straight games for the first time in five years. He has led the Vaqueros in rushing in every game this season, averaging a team-leading 121.7 scrimmage yards per game.

The San Diego, CA native will get the chance to extend that streak against LA Southwest this Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1:00 p.m. in the Vaqueros' second home game of the season at La Playa Stadium.
