LOS ANGELES, CA – The SBCC men's basketball team made it a 2-0 start to conference play on Wednesday, defeating LA Pierce 71-49 for its largest win so far this season.

Freshman forward Aidan Mandel notched his ninth 20-point effort in 18 games this year, going an efficient 9-of-13 (.692) from the field and leading the team with seven rebounds.

The Vaqueros (7-11, 2-0) were efficient on offense, shooting 47.2 percent overall, 40 percent on threes and knocking down 13-of-16 (.813) from the line. On the other end, they held the Brahmas (0-18, 0-2) to 15.4 percent on threes and were a plus-4 in the turnover department.

It was a balanced offensive effort for SBCC, which had only one double-digit scorer. Guards Wilfrid Nado and Trevor Lee finished with nine points apiece, while Jaelen Bates and Elijah Simpson had seven each.

LA Pierce led by two points midway through the first half, but the Vaqueros would close the period strong leading 33-26 at the break. They would completely dominate the second half, outscoring Pierce 38-23 over the final 20 minutes.

SBCC returns home for its next game against Ventura on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
