In an outstading display of individual and team golf, the SBCC's Men's Golf Team secured its trip to the SoCal Regionals by bringing home the team medal in the WSC Finals at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo over the 2-round event with a score of 754. Playing some of his best golf of the season, Ryan Gay secured the overall individual medal with rounds of 75 and 69 for a two-over par 144. Entering round 2, the Vaqueros (379) had a slim lead over perennial WSC powerhouse College of the Canyons (383) and a 12 shot lead over Glendale College (391). But Gay came to play with a 2-under par 69, followed by fellow sophomore Caleb Rodriguez's one-under par 70. The Vaqueros saw a four-shot improvement from round 1 for a team total 375, pushing them to the overall win ahead of Glendale (768) and Canyons (779). "We have been shadowing (Canyons) all season, but today our team was focused on playing its best golf, and you can see that the results speak for themselves," said Head Coach Ernie Carrasco. "Ryan and Caleb played elite golf and it's great to come out on top. We are ready for the SoCal Regionals." With the WSC win, the Vaqueros secured an overall 2nd Place finish in conference and an automatic bid to the SoCal Regionals on May 8 at Industry Hills GC (Babe Course).
