CITY OF INDUSTRY — SBCC Men's Golf teed it up at the CCCAA Southern California Championships on Monday in the City of Industry playing the Babe Course on back-to-back loops, looking to secure a team appearance to the CCCAA State Championship next week in Madera, Ca. The 6800 yard, par 71 track proved to be a formidable task for the Vaqueros, as the team missed out on making the state finals by a mere 3 shots. The top 4 teams from the SoCal Regionals advance to the finals, and the Vaqueros finished in 5th behind team medalist Saddleback College (741), College of the Desert (761), Riverside College (770), and Cuyamaca College (776). SBCC finished in 5th place at 779. Fellow WSC participants Ventura College (785) and College fo the Canyons (401) finished 6th and 7th respecitively, with Glendale College (400/407/807) coming in 10th . "We really played some great golf down the stretch of our season," said Head Coach Ernie Carrasco. "It's just too bad we missed the team state qualification by three shots. Hopefully our freshman can use this as a learning experience moving forward that every shot in golf matters, even if it seems like it doesn't."

The good news for the Vaqueros was that two of the team members qualified for the state tournament as individuals. Sophomores Ryan Gay (76/72/148) and Caleb Rodriguez (73/77/150) earned the right to travel to Madera and play for the individual state title on May 14-15 at Dragonfly Country Club. Eight total teams from California (4 North/4 South) will compete for the team title, while every player who made it to Madera will compete for the overall individual title.  "Ryan and Caleb did a fantastic job of representing SBCC Golf all year, and now they get to continue to try to win the overall state title. I'm very proud of them, and super excited for their opportunity next week," added Carrasco. Please find all of the SoCal Regional scoring below.
