SANTA MONICA, CA – Playing at Santa Monica in its conference opener on Tuesday, the SBCC men's soccer team was defeated 2-1.

With just their second loss of the season, the Vaqueros are now 5-2-4 overall. The Corsairs improve to 8-1-4 overall.

"Tough day down in Santa Monica as usual. We battled super hard to get back into the game and a mix-up at the back along with some questionable refereeing actions led to a late winner for Santa Monica," said assistant coach Matt Wilkinson. "Super proud of all the boys as we attempt to continue our route to the playoffs. We go again on Friday away to Moorpark"

Santa Monica took the early lead in the 20th minute, when Roey Kivity opened the scoring on an assist by Alexander Lalor. Neither team would find the back of the net until the final minutes of the match.

Sophomore forward Will Demirkol scored his third goal in three games to equalize, giving him four for the year. Sophomore midfielder Joep Wouters Van den Oudenweijer notched his fifth assist of the season, good for second on the team.

However, the Corsairs would find a late winner from Alvin Rivas to steal the conference-opening victory.
