Vaqs Have Strong Showing at WSC Finals

The SBCC Men's Tennis teams played excellent tennis throughout the three day conference tournament. Sophomore Arnaud Vangenechten and Freshman Daniel Truong advanced into the semi-finals before being defeated by the #1 seed Ventura duo.  "Daniel and Arnaud are demonstrating that they have a special chemistry together and they are peaking at a great time in the season," said head coach Danny Echt. "Arnaud and Daniel have really developed serve weapons which they have relied upon in their recent wins."

Vaqs #1 doubles team of Sophomores Taylor Kleine and Menno Raeymakers defeated two Ventura teams to earn their spot in the finals of the WSC Conference tournament.  Despite losing in the finals (6-4, 7-5), they played many high quality shots and an overall great final extending the match in the second set against arguable the favorite to win the state championship from Ventura College. "The quality of play in the final was excellent along with the sportsmanship, dsiplayed from both teams," Echt commented.  "Taylor's creativity and quick hands along with Menno's steady return game sent them into the finals."

In singles play, Vaqs Menno Raeymakers and Arnaud Vangenechten both made it to the last round of the back draw before being eliminated from qualification to the State Ojai event later in April.   Despite that, the SBCC doubles teams earned their way to compete at Ojai in the State Chmpionships.
