Ojai, Ca. The SBCC Men's Tennis team dynamic duo of Taylor Kleine and Menno Raeymakers continued to play inspired tennis, advancing through the rounds of 64 and 32, moving in the quarterfinals at the CCCAA Tennis Championship in Ojai.
On Thursday, Kleine and Raeymakers took out a solid doubles team from Solano College 6-1, 6-1. Holding and breaking serves throughout, the duo continued their winnings ways, just as they have done all season. Following up that win, Kleine and Raeymakers had a massive challenge on their hands as they took on the #2 doubles team from Glendale College. After a rough start, losing the set in a 7-6 tiebreaker, Kleine and Raeymakers were able to rally together and take the next set 7-5, and then held off Glendale's Martirosian and Ben Mirta 10-6 in the match tiebreaker. "Taylor and Menno had a tough start to the match, but were able to put the pieces together mentally, allowing them to play great tennis and ultimately win," said head coach Danny Echt. "Taylor was cool, calm, and collected and dominated the net with constant pressure as Menno put down some fabulous returns." The doubles team continues their play on Saturday against one of the top NorCal doubles teams from American River College.
In other Vaquero action, the doubles teams of Daniel Truong and Arnaud Vangenechten advanced to the round of 32 after defeating a solid team from Mount San Antonio College 6-3, 7-5. They will take on the #1 doubles team from American River College on Friday. Finally, the Vaqs #3 team of Jalle Oostra and Santiago Maldonado lost to the doubles team from Modesto Junior College 6-2, 6-1 ending their 2023 season.
