Ojai, Ca. In day 3 of the CCCAA Tennis State Championships, the #1 Vaqueros double team of Taylor Klein and Menno Raeymakers played a competitive match against the #1 doubles team from College of the Desert, and the eventual CCCAA Doubles Champions. The Vaquero duo had a strong run in the tourmanent, but fell to the champs in the round of 16 6-2, 6-2. "Both Taylor and Menno had a great year together, complimented each other on the court and represented what Vaquero Tennis is all about- grit, teamwork and high level tennis," said Head Coach Danny Echt. After winning their first 2 matches of the championship, Klein and Raeymakers ran into a buzzsaw, and argualbly the toughest duo in the state as was evidenced by the Desert's eventual doubles championship win.
The 2023 campaign completed Coach Echt's first at the helm of SBCC Tennis. The Vaqueros finished a respectable 3rd place in the Western States Conference, and were able to advance 3 doubles team to the state tournament, with 2 of them advancing through the first round. The Vaqs look to bring back 4 returners to next year's squad in addition to some newcomers who will compete for the WSC title and a strong showing in next year's state championships in Ojai. Congrats to the 2023 SBCC Tennis Program!
