VENTURA – The SBCC softball team earned a 3-0 win over Fullerton before being defeated 16-1 in five innings by Ventura at the Ventura Spring Games on Saturday.

SBCC vs. FULLERTON
The Vaqueros picked up their first shutout of the year to open the day against Fullerton. Pitcher Lauren Indermuehle tossed seven strikeouts and gave up just five hits and no walks in the winning effort.

Santa Barbara had an 8-5 hit advantage, led by two-hit performances from catcher Linnéa Sandhal and center fielder Natalie Depasquale.

No runs came in until the fifth inning, when SBCC went for three runs on four hits. Alyssa Perez led off with a single to center field and advanced on a Fullerton error.

Mellanie Barth notched a sacrifice bunt to move Perez to third. Sandhal took it from there, hitting an RBI single to right field to open the scoring. Indermuehle then hit an RBI single to right, bringing Sandhal home from first.

After some Ventura subs, Depasquale picked up right where her teammates left off, doubling to left to bring Indermuehle home. That put SBCC up 3-0 and went on to be the final run of the game.

SBCC vs. VENTURA
After falling behind early, the Vaqueros were able to put up five hits from five different players. They would get on the scoreboard for the first time in the third inning.

First baseman Alyssa Perez and Linnéa Sandhai notched back-to-back singles and Lauren Indermuehle hit an RBI single on the following at bat.

However, a double play ended the Vaqueros' run and sent it back to the Pirates' offense which reeled off nine runs on eight hits in the bottom half of the inning. Ventura added two more runs in the following inning to cap the game's scoring.

Mckinnzie Grossini tallied the Vaqueros' final hit in the top of the fifth with a single to open the inning, but that would be SBCC's final positive play of the day.
