SANTA BARBARA – The SBCC softball team was defeated by Moorpark 13-0 in five innings in a one-sided affair on Thursday at Pershing Park.

The Vaqueros are now 9-25 overall and 3-5 in WSC play, while Moorpark improves to 22-8 overall, 7-0 conference.

ON THE STAT SHEET

  • In the first meeting between the two teams in March, Santa Barbara finished with one hit and one walk. The Vaqueros had twice as many batters reach base this time around, as Mellanie Barth led the way with two kills.
  • Catcher Linnéa Sandhal had one hit, giving her a hit in eight of her last nine appearances.
  • Left fielder Isabella Huckaby had SBCC's lone walk in the fifth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Inning (5-0 MC)

  • The Raiders pounced on the Vaqueros from the outset, as the visitors saw each of their first six batters make it on base. Moorpark had six of its 16 hits in the opening inning as it took a 5-0 lead.
  • SBCC's offensive day started out promising, as Sandhal singled to right field as the leadoff batter. However, Moorpark got back-to-back strikeouts and ended the inning on an unassisted groundout to first.

2nd-3rd Innings (9-0 MC)

  • Moorpark was held to just one hit and one run in the second inning as Santa Barbara's defense tightened up a bit.
  • Barth hit a single through the right side, but would be the only Vaquero to reach first base in the inning.
  • A two-run double by Danielle Heidmann highlighted Moorpark's third inning. The Raiders added another RBI single on the following at bat to go up 9-0.

4th-5th Innings (13-0 MC)

  • A pair of Moorpark home runs put the icing on the cake in the final two innings, as the Raiders scored in all five.
  • In the fifth, Barth singled and Huckaby walked to put two SBCC runners on base for the first time in the game, but another two Moorpark strikeouts ended the day short.
