SANTA BARBARA, CA – Playing without star guard Isabella Jensen Williams on Thursday at the Sports Pavilion, the SBCC women's basketball team couldn't keep pace in a 76-41 loss to LA Valley.

Santa Barbara's (7-7) offense struggled to find a flow in the opening period, falling behind 21-6 through one. Freshman guard Leila Chisholm began to provide a spark in the second quarter, knocking down two straight threes.

Chisholm continued to fire away with confidence, hitting 5-of-7 threes and finishing with a team-high 17 points. Guard Brianna Jacobs scored eight and center Paity Persson went for seven and 13 rebounds.

The Monarchs (7-6) continued to push the lead higher the rest of the way behind a big performance by Jordyn Jiron, who filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. SBCC was able to match LA Valley by forcing 21 turnovers, but couldn't slow down the Monarchs offense which shot 58.5 percent from the field for the game.

SBCC will now look ahead to its WSC opener at Cuesta on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 5:00 p.m.
