VENTURA – After a stellar 6-3 start to Western State Conference Play, the SBCC women's basketball team was defeated in both games last week, 72-57 at Hartnell on Wednesday and 61-43 at Ventura on Saturday.

Ventura 61, SBCC 43
The Vaqueros (14-12, 6-4) entered Saturday's game at Ventura winners in five of their last six conference games. However, it was a tough day offensively for SBCC, which was edged out in shooting and in the rebound and turnover departments.

Sophomores Brianna Jacobs and Isabella Jensen Williams led the way with 10 points each. Williams had another well-rounded stat line with seven rebounds, an assist and a block. Jacobs was efficient from the field, going 4-of-7.

Freshman guards Eva Carrejo and Kiani Rojas hit 3-of-6 and 1-of-3 from downtown, respectively. In what was nearly a wire-to-wire win, the Pirates (19-7, 8-3) took just five three-pointers and didn't make one, but pounded the glass for a 40-28 advantage and were a solid 19-of-24 on free throws.

Hartnell 72, SBCC 57
On Wednesday, the Vaqueros got a big 23-point game from Jensen Williams, but Hartnell (19-6) scored 20 in the first and 25 in the third to pull away.

It was Jensen Williams' second straight 20-point game and seventh of the season, coming on the heels of her 26-point triple double one day prior. She knocked down 6-of-15 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the line, hitting 10 free throws for the second time this year.

Guard Leila Chisholm had a big day off the bench, continuing to shoot the lights out hitting all five of her attempts from beyond-the-arc for her third 15-point performance as a freshman.

Freshman center Paityn Persson finished with a solid all-around stat line with eight points, nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and a pair of blocks.
