ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – In preparation for the State Finals (Nov. 14-15), the Central Coast was host to the State Preview at Cypress Ridge Golf Club on Sept. 20. Measuring in at 5100 yards, "The Ridge" can give fits to any golfer with its undulating greens and hillside lies.
For SBCC, it was just another walk around the loop.
Freshman Carlee Steven fired a 79, good for a 6th-place finish, followed by sophomore Ginger Libby's 87 and a tie for 10th. Libby started things off flying with a putt for eagle on her first hole (number 9, par 5), and was able to 2-putt for birdie.
Steven had an outstanding front nine, turning in a one-over 37 without even a single birdie (8 pars, one bogey).
"Overall, we're happy with how each of our ladies played today," said Head Coach Devin Engebretsen. "Finishing in 6th and 10th out of 44 golfers is nothing to sneeze at. Carlee got off to a great start shooting only 1-over on the front-9, and Ginger had a few good looks at birdie that I think she will convert when we come back for the State Tournament."
