ORANGE – The SBCC women's soccer team faced a familiar foe in the first round of the CCCA So Cal Regionals on Saturday, falling at Santiago Canyon by a final score of 3-0.

It was the third straight postseason trip in which the Vaqueros (10-6-3) were defeated by the Hawks (18-2-1). The loss ended an eight-match unbeaten streak for SBCC, which hadn't been held without a goal in a losing effort since Oct. 8.

Santiago Canyon opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a goal from Summer Stewart. Paige Winters doubled the Hawks lead in the 20th minute.

Mimi Diaz-Casarrubia provided the only second half goal in the 53rd. The Vaqueros were unable to find the back of the net despite posting 20 shot attempts. Goalkeeper Analea Pule was pressured often, but performed admirably, tallying a season-high 10 saves.

Forwards Theresa English and Monica Pizano end the year as SBCC's top producers on offense. English finishes with team-highs in points (25) and goals (10), while Pizano came in second in both categories (9 goals, 22 pts). Fellow forward Sofia Orozco recorded a team-leading seven assists to go along with four goals in 2021.
