CCCAA State Championships 2023
The Vaquero's placed fifth at the CCCAA Swim and Dive Championships at East Los Angeles College. A hard fought season culminated in team and individual excellence at the highest competitive level. Head Coach Chuckie Roth said, "There were several highlights of the weekend. Our 800 freestyle relay improved from ninth place to third place. Three of our relays placed second in the state. Freshman Isabella (Izzy) Urlando was able to set a new state record in the 200 Backstroke (2:01.56) and won Female Athlete Performance of the Meet." Izzy also took first place in the 100 Backstroke (56.07). Both swims were SBCC All-Time Records.
The Vaqueros' relays swam exceptionally well, placing in the top three for all five relays. Individually, SBCC saw 13 entries into finals, with an additional two from diver Morgan Cederholm.
Roth continued, "I am extremely proud of our team this season. We have several graduating sophomores who have made a big impact in our team's culture and have been responsible for so many of our successes. Each of them will be missed dearly by the 2023 SBCC aquatics program. The team's hard work and commitment is second to none. I know each of our graduates will make a positive impact in our communities, and I am proud of the women they are."
